This tour takes us to the Altun Ha Maya Ruin. This ruin was once a trading center in this region and is the ruin at which one of Belize’s national treasures was found, the Jade Head. The best photo opportunities on this tour come after hiking to the tops of the highest structures where the Mayan elite once occupied which offers a panoramic view of this Mayan site as well as the surrounding pristine jungle.
Stop: 3 hours – Admission included
We start off this tour with cave tubing! The Maya thought that these caves led to Xibabla, an underworld ruled by the Maya death gods and their helpers in K’iche’ Maya mythology. Upon reaching the caves and the river, you can take a dip and admire the beauty of the rocks and cave entrance. After that we tube down the river and into the caves that contain art work and rock formations within. The zip lining area consists of ten platforms and seven runs. The longest run is over 600 feet and the highest run is over 150 feet. All equipment is provided and you are guided by two experienced guides for the entire tour. All you have to do is gear up and experience the thrill of flying through the Belizean forest! Transportation may be shared however your tour is private with your own guide.
Great Tour Guide
Jose was a great tour guide! He was nice enough to pick us up and drop us off at our hotel. We learned a lot about the Mayans ruins of Altun Ha and Belize City. The lunch spot we went to also had amazing authentic Belizean rice and beans. I would definitely recommend Jose Tours!

Knowledgeable and Courteous
Jose is a fabulous tour guide. He will make sure you see everything you want to and give you enough time to really enjoy the areas you visit. He also does airport transfers and is so reliable and friendly!
Jose picked us up from the port and we were off for a day of adventure. It was just our group of 4 in a very comfortable, air conditioned mini van. Jose told us all about the city and pointed out historical sites and buildings and explained their significance on our way to Altun Ha. We stopped for a wine tasting of some local Belizean wine made from cashew fruit and Noni Juice (don’t smell it, just shoot it down). Of course, we did not bring any bug spray so Jose was nice enough to stop and get some for us and oh man, we were so glad he did!! The recent rains really brought out the mosquitos so make sure you bring bug spray and wear light colored clothing. The ruins were absolutely gorgeous!! Jose told us all about the Mayans that built them and lived there. The ruins are very close to the entrance so you don’t have to walk too far to get to them. I’m not in great shape at all and I made it to the top without too much struggle. Even if you don’t want to walk up to the top of the ruins, still go and see this beautiful piece of Mayan history. Seeing something that is from 200AD is very amazing!!! After the ruins, we headed to lunch at Roadhouse and it was delicious!!! We had chicken, rice, beans, and coleslaw. Belizean Coca Cola is very yummy as well. Jose was an absolutely fantastic tour guide and you will not be disappointed if you choose one of his tours!!
